We have five chooks residing in our school ground and you have the opportunity to look after them.

Each Monday a different family cares for the chooks for the week by letting the chooks out in the morning before school and putting them back in their shed at the end of school. Food and water is checked at these times and replenished. The chooks love food scraps from home but no citrus fruit peel or onion please.

Think of all the eggs you can collect to eat for breakfast and to bake cakes! A storage box in the pen will contain equipment needed. The chooks at present are remaining in their pen until they are used to their surroundings and part of the school boundary fence is completed. Later the chooks will be free to roam the Sustainable Playground, much to the delight of the children.

Often you will see children patting the chooks as they rest on their lap. We have raised most of the chooks since they hatched from their egg. Come and help us look after the chooks by writing your name and phone number on the week that suits you on a sheet outside Virginia’s room Prep room 3. Information on how to look after the chooks will be provided. You may wish to share the week with another family.
