School Ambassadors
School Ambassadors are a team of 5 Grade 6 students that have been selected by the staff at HWPS. They are given leadership training and attend leadership seminars. They will be given time each week to carry out their duties however they will be expected to be well organised and catch up on any work they have missed in their own time when necessary.
Ambassador's roles include but are not limited to:
- Conduct school tours
- Coordinate the student committee events and resolve issues within committees when necessary
- Be involved in inducting new students to the school – so that they settle in well and make friends easily
- Write regular articles for the newsletter/website about things going on in the school
- Assist in transition programs across the school in term 4
- Make speeches thanking visitors to our school
- Liaise with the Principal, Assistant Principal and teachers on behalf of the students and their needs
- Be involved in running assemblies with all Grade 6 students
- Represent the students at selected school council meetings
- Encourage and liaise with parents and students to be involved in whole school events (eg. Jackpot Jump, Discos and Multi-age days)
- Organise visits to kindergartens and aged care facilities that will be beneficial to both parties
- School Ambassadors should be members of committees but not be the leaders of them as they have other duties that they must be able to do whenever the principal requires them
All Grade 6 students are considered Leaders and the qualities they should display include:
- They should be role models for students throughout the school
- They should have exemplary behaviour. They should abide by and encourage others to follow the rules of our school
- They should think before they act and show respect for the school, people and property
- They should use initiative to assist teachers and students in events throughout the school
- They should be good listeners
- They should be able to communicate their ideas using eye contact, body language and clear thoughtful speech. They should plan their speeches and conduct them confidently
- They should be very encouraging towards others students in the school. This includes recognising students skills and needs and helping them to be the best they can be
- They should be cooperative and be able to delegate appropriately
- Be very organised with time and belongings
- School Leaders will represent Prep- Grade 2’s on the JSC and report back to those grades after each meeting
