A Parent Run GroupHawthorn West PS prides itself on its active and welcoming community. The PTF provides many opportunities for families to become involved in the school and to build and strengthen the bonds within the school community. FundraisingA large part of the PTF’s role is fundraising for the school. We are surrounded by many examples in the school grounds of the success of fundraising and that is due to the support and enthusiastic involvement of the families. Our yearly activities include...
Performing Arts Interest GroupThis is a newly formed group with the aim of raising the profile of music in the school. The group helps to coordinate music groups for events and soirees in conjunction with our Performing Arts Teacher and instrumental teachers. This group will play a vital role this year in the entertainment provided at the Jackpot Jump Twilight Fair. Visual Arts Interest GroupThe work of our students under the guidance of our Art Teacher Michele Freeland-Small is often one of the most admired features of our school. Another group in its embryonic stages, we hope to be able to arrange opportunities to showcase the children’s work, perhaps in our fabulous new building facility. Fathers GroupIn general the Mums are well catered for at school with coffee mornings and social events but we saw the need to enable our school Dads to get together and get to know other Dads. Other ways to become involved in the schoolClassroom RepresentativeEach class has a parent who volunteers to be the Class Representative. This involves a morning tea with the Principal early in the year to learn more about the role and meet the other reps. We also encourage the Class Rep to help organize a couple of social events with the class parents. E.g. Morning teas, dinners or drinks to help parents to get to know each other. The Class Representative is also a valuable resource for the classroom teacher and will give some assistance for the Jackpot Jump at the end of the year e.g., organizing a class roster. This is a wonderful way to get involved in the school. New Family Mentor ProgramNew families can elect to receive a Mentor Family. This is a great way to have all of your questions answered and can be as simple as a phone call or a play in the park. This is particularly helpful if you do not know anyone who is already at the school. Please contact the office if you would like a Parent Mentor assigned. We hope that you take the opportunity to enjoy the activities offered and become involved in the many organized events. If anyone would like to be part of the organizing of any of our existing groups or has any ideas they would like to discuss, please contact Amanda Lincke at HWPS via the office. Fundraising ExtrasHWPS takes part in some loyalty programs within the local community which then enables us to purchase their goods at reduced prices for our school events. If you are shopping at Glenferrie Gourmet Meats or Brumby’s Hawthorn, let them know you are from HWPS. We regularly receive sausages and bread for our BBQs at reduced prices and sometimes even for free depending on the points accrued. The local IGA Renaissance Supermarket on the corner of Power St and Burwood Rd in Hawthorn also is very generous. Any receipts we collect are added up and the school will receive 1% of the total spent at the shop. It is as simple as giving your IGA receipts to your child’s classroom teacher in an envelope marked ‘IGA Receipts’ and they will go via kiddy mail to the office. Every family in the school has received an ‘Identity Direct’ Catalogue. There are many wonderful items in these catalogues and we particularly want to draw your attention to the name tags. What a fabulous way to keep track of your child’s belongings! Just ensure that you state the Organisation Code for HWPS given on page 28 of the catalogue with any orders and the school will receive a percentage of the total you spend.
