Reflection on Term Three 2009

Camp Manyung (near Mt. Eliza) would have to be the highlight of Term 3. The year 3/4’s had a great time! We completed lots of exciting activities including: giant swing (which was a favorite for most people), canoeing, archery, bush cooking, studying marine life on the beach, orienteering and two way radios. The food was delicious. On the first night we had chicken schnitzel and on the second night we had roast beef. On the second night we had the talent show. The winner was Mia from 3/4V with her Michael Jackson Thriller performance. In second place was Joe Basser with his magic red ball trick and in third place came Steffy, Holly and Sarah with their fantastic dance routine. We all enjoyed our time at Camp Manyung. We all got a chance to get to know one another better and had heaps of fun.
In term 3 our Integrated Unit was ‘How the environment is changing’. We went on an excursion to the aquarium. Tour guides showed us around the aquarium and explained many interesting facts to us, like plastic bottles do not break down at all. We saw lots of colourful and weird looking fish and even got a glimpse at the hungry sharks being fed. We also started a project on endangered animals which will continue into term 4.

Throughout the term during our maths lessons, we looked at shapes (2D and 3D) and symmetry in more detail, we learnt how to multiply two, three and four digit numbers and even know the difference between perimeter and area. It was challenging but heaps of fun.
During literacy lessons we read ‘The Battle of Bubble and Squeak’. We investigated and completed reports on gerbils and constructed gerbil homes. We learnt all about persuasive language and made catalogues some were about flowers some were about dolls and some are about food. We also learnt and read fables eg. ‘The Fox and the Grapes’. Fables are short stories that have a moral at the end and wrote our own fables.
We had a busy term 3 and we’re sure to have an even busier term 4!
