2008 Italian Day

Italian Day 2008 was a huge success! Students enjoyed dressing up in Italian colours, sporting characters or even opera stars. Here is Pinnochio and his chef! The pizza e gelati were the best!

Grazie Mattia for organising this fantastic day!

Below is a brief outline of what each level will be doing for Term 4.

Level 1 - Prep

In Term 4 the students will explore Italian celebrations and how culture influences the purpose and way we celebrate. The vocabulary will be taken from traditional Italian folk-tales; La festa di Pollicino, Carnevale and La Befana. We will also look at how the Italians celebrate Christmas in Italy.

Level 2 - Grades 1 & 2

Students will explore animals. They will work on an ongoing project to write a cumulative profile on an animal using basic sentences and word banks. The students will choose an animal and write sentences to describe the animal family it belongs to, its body parts, habitat and food it eats. They will also use adjectives to describe their chosen animal.

Level 3 - Grades 3 & 4

In Term 4 the students will explore language related to the Italian cuisine and cooking. The students will perform role plays related to purchasing food at a supermarket and ordering food in a restaurant. They will write about the process involved in the preparation of food, look at recipes and cook an Italian pasta dish.

Level 4 - Grades 5 & 6

In Term 4 the students will seek to extend their Italian vocabulary about themselves through the use of adjectives. They will explore the food pyramid and analyse food choices. The students will design a nutritious eating plan. They will also work with partners in creating dialogues expressing their physical and emotional state.
